Published to coincide with the Gallery's largest ever exhibition of contemporary Indigenous Australian art by artists from across the country. This title makes an important contribution to scholarly writing on Aboriginal art. The exhibition draws on the Gallery's extensive holdings of urbanbased Indigenous art, sculpture, North Queensland paintings, installation, video art and Western Desert painting, as well as major site-specific installations in the Gallery. The writers will examine the associations Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists have with land and country and highlight the vital role these artists play in telling Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories as they present alternative views of history, assert Indigenous presence over country, both urban and regional, and respond to contemporary politics and highlighting contemporary Indigenous experiences in Australia.
